DIY: Pillowcase Roll Bed

April 6, 2012

My mom loves a good craft project as much as I do, especially if it benefits one of her loved ones. So, my mom wrote today’s post on how to make one of Gwyneth’s new favorite gifts, the Pillowcase Roll Bed. Enjoy!

“So I will admit it, I like to check out Pinterest now and then.  I’m kind of an “artsy/craftsy” gal and enjoy looking through Pinterest to see what I can find for inspiration.
Especially if it involves a project for my grandchildren.
A few months ago I saw the “pin” picture of the “Pillowcase Roll Bed” and thought it would be a fun thing for my granddaughter to have to play on, watch TV, nap on, or whatever.   I didn’t read the tutorial that was offered, as it looked fairly self-explanatory.

The materials I bought are:
5 pillowcases -I bought them from Walmart, looking for bright, cheerful colors and patterns.
5 pillows -Again, I got these from Walmart at $2.99 each. Such a bargain.
I machine stitched each pillowcase to each other, and then to make it extra sturdy, I reinforced the seams by stitching a yellow ribbon on top of each seam.  I then stuffed the pillows inside the pillowcases, and voila! So easy to make.
When my granddaughter saw the Pillowcase Roll Bed on the floor of her living room, she jumped right in the middle of it and knew exactly what it was for.  She loved it!

Then when her daddy found her, he grabbed an end and began to drag her around the house and she thought that was great fun!  (Good thing the seams were reinforced!)

Now Gwyneth and her daddy fight over who gets to lay on it, as apparently it is great fun for all ages!I also bought a large vacuum bag to store it in when needed to be put away. Works great!

So, if you are looking for a very inexpensive treat for your children, or for a gift for someone else, I highly recommend this project!

Bye!”
