My husband and I celebrated nine years being married a week ago and on a semi-whim went to Mexico! Since we got engaged in Mexico, we deemed it a fun spot to get away. During our stay, we discovered some really fun places to eat, activities to do and little tips and tricks, so I wanted to share those with you all today!
Where we stayed:
We stayed at the Casa Dorada and we absolutely loved its location. It’s right on Medano Beach, within walking distance to downtown, and had all of the qualities we were looking for. Plus, it was affordable!
This was the view right as we walked in.
And we were greeted with champagne which was a fun little touch.
Our room was the standard room with a king bed, and it was very spacious including a kitchenette and a walkout balcony.
The view, and all rooms are ocean-view rooms!
Favorite Eats:
Bar Esquina– The decor of this spot is spot on, and so is the food! Everything we ordered was fresh and truly delicious. And the owner, Manny, was super friendly, too! This was high on our list.
Gardenias– If you want cheap, yummy tacos, this is your place! You first choose your meat and are given an assortment of toppings to add yourself. We found this little gem on one of the last days and were disappointed we didn’t find it earlier. For under $2/taco, we were quite pleased!
Las Guacamayas– This was our favorite overall restaurant of the whole trip. Good prices, authentic food, and live music. Plus, they had huge fans going which helped keep us cool in the heat. Located downtown.
This is one of their Stone Bowls, and we really enjoyed these!
Casa Dorada- The breakfast at our hotel had an amazing view and a lot of good options, and being able to charge it to our room was convenient as well. And, the cold brew coffees are REALLY good! (Not pictured.)
One night we ordered dinner in, and it was delicious and just perfect. It was so relaxing, uninterrupted, and came quickly. We turned on some Netflix (or current favorite show, Somebody Feed Phil) and had a really nice dinner!
The Office– For a really filling meal with fantastic views, The Office is a great spot. You can dig your toes right in the sand and are RIGHT THERE to feel the breeze of the ocean.
Favorite Activities:
Snorkeling– We went snorkeling on the Caborey cruise boat and thought it was definitely worth the $60 per person. (We booked through Expedia, which was cheaper than any of the prices locally.) It offered all of the equipment needed, an open bar, and an all-you-can-eat fajita buffet. We happened to go on a windier day and didn’t see many unique fish, but we did see some. Nonetheless, still a good experience.
The snorkeling boat:
The famous arch! – They stop in front of this arch for photos and even turn the boat so everyone can see it.
Shopping– We grabbed a large cold brew and hit the streets for some local shopping and really enjoyed tinkering around. My husband also really got a kick out of my new name (my name is Shannon) and referred to me as Shenet often throughout our time there.
Scooter rental– We quickly discovered walking all around Cabo during July was pretty dang hot, and taking taxis everywhere was starting to add up. So, we rented a scooter from Spanky’s and after getting over my initial fears of dying, it actually proved to be an awesome way to get around. Plus, it was fun!
My view from the back as I held on for my life.
One of our favorites was riding our scooter over to the Sol Mar hotel, grabbing a drink from the bar and then enjoying the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. It was truly beautiful and very relaxing!
I really liked this fireplace and had to document for inspiration!
I don’t think I have ever taken a photo like this, but with this view, I just couldn’t resist.
Horseback Riding/ATV Tour
This was our FAVORITE activity of the whole trip! We were each given a horse (with saddle) and rode along a path before reaching the beach, which was absolutely breathtaking. We couldn’t tell if these horses were wild horses, or horses belonging to the company… nonetheless, fun to see!
The view right before we reached the beach:
And then….. BEAUTY!
My horse looked as if it may charge…
And then… we hopped on ATV’s and romped around! We even went to the top of the little rock mountain pictured below. THIS. WAS. SO. FUN, and we highly recommend the horseback riding/ATV tour offered in Cabo.
Deep-Sea Fishing– My husband and I went fishing on our honeymoon and haven’t done it since, so we thought it would be fun to do it once again, and other than the waters being a little rocky making our tummy’s churn, we did catch some big fish, which was really fun! And the views. Just see below for yourself!
And then this guy hopped on the back of our boat, which we REALLY enjoyed seeing!
I am so thankful we were able to take this time and remember where it all started. Instead of gifts, my husband and I focus on time with one another and really cherish creating memorable experiences. And a huge thank you to my husband’s parents for taking such good care of our kiddos while we were gone! They too were making memories and that just means so much to us!
Wow that looks like an amazing trip! It’s beautiful there!
So nice! Looks like you guys had so much fun!
This must have been a most enjoyable family vacation. The delicious the food displayed, the arrangement of the hotel and its surrounding and the other attendant logistics all shout ‘We will take care of you and I know they have. Continue to draw down on the beautiful memories created.
Oh my goodness, these views look so amazing! All the food looks great, and looks like you had a ton of fun! Will definitely save this for later in case we ever decide to vacation in Cabo!
