Vtech Innotab Learning Cartridges Review

December 6, 2014

Since we have had the Vtech Innotab 3 Learning Tablet the primary participant in our house has been Miss Gwyn. She is able to navigate around that thing with ease and enjoys most of the activities it includes.

So when Vtech sent our family three new cartridges to try out I was hoping Cal would be able to use it a little more with more age-appropriate cartridges.

The first cartridge we tried out was the Innotab My First Nursery Rhymes Learning Cartridge.  It includes some cute nursery rhymes to sing along to, which was great for me because I am horrible at my nursery rhymes and could afford to brush up a little bit.  I also liked the sign language on this cartridge and wish I had had it when my kiddos were younger. Not that they couldn’t learn a little more sign language now, but I utilized the language more when they weren’t speaking yet. You can also switch it to  lullaby mode where you can set the timer for 15 minutes and play a medley of five songs to soothe your child to sleep. Again, would have been awesome during infancy. This cartridge overall was a little too young for my kiddos.

The next cartridge we tried out was the  Innotab Disney Winnie the Pooh Learning Cartridge, which is Cal’s favorite.  The games are right up his alley which inlclude learning his colors, shapes, and finding the honeypot. This one also offers sign-language options which is great. Bah! My kids are getting old! This cartridge also has a story and songs to listen to and follow along with as well.

The cartridge that Gwyn likes the most is the Innotab Classic Stories Learning Cartridge. This cartridge features three stories to follow along with- The Frog Prince, Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs, each with three different reading levels. And since we are just starting to learn to read, this is great for us. Gwyn likes The Three Little Pigs the best so far and I really like the learning qualities of this one as it includes some  rhyming activities, phonics, reading comprehension and has a little introduction to writing as well.

I have found that the Vtech Innotab 3 is most often used while I am making lunch. Yes, sometimes it is fought over, but when they’re listening to a story or song then they both use it at the same time with no problem. And sometimes it’s even used under the lunch table as well!

When I need a moment to prep food, clean a bathroom or just catch my breath from mothering these two, I am thankful for things like the Vtech Innotab Learning Tablet.
