Portland, Poop, and Pool Time, Oh my! Catching up.

June 17, 2013

I feel like I have been a little MIA lately. A lot has been going on with our little family, that which I will explain later. But, it’s been hectic and my time  and energy have been focused elsewhere. For that I apologize.

But, I will do my best to catch you up a little bit on our adventures lately.

Two weekends ago the family and I drove to Portland, which with a newly potty-trained toddler took us about seven or so hours, in which we dropped the kiddos off with their uncles to spend the night. We then high-tailed it over to Seattle, another three and a half hours, for our good friends’ engagement party, and then drove  back to Portland to pick the kiddos up, and then drove the seven hours home. Needless to say, it was an adventure. But, worth it. The kids LOVED spending time with their uncles and even got to spend time with their cousins, and we had a great time at the engagement party.

Then, four days later, we left for Reno for two weeks. It took us over thirteen hours to drive there, but due to having a backpack full of fun for Gwyn, a bunch of movies for the DVD player and a whole bag and cooler full of food, we made it with minimal problems. Sure, we had to stop often for Gwyn (and honestly, The Hubby) to use the potty, Cal only napped for thirty minutes total all day, and Gwyn zero, and they didn’t fall asleep until ten at night, they only got fussy/cranky for about thirty minutes around 8:00 pm.

Oh, wait. How could I forget…

Around 5:00, The Hubby and I smelled something funky, and decided it was a good time to pull over for dinner and clean up the kids. So, I took diaper duty while The Hubby took Gwyn to fill up on gas. Well, when I got to the bathroom I discovered no changing table, and Cal had a major blowout.

Major.

He hadn’t done that since he was about six months old, so this was quite the unpleasant surprise. And Little Man wasn’t making it easy on me to change him on the skinny little counter, either. Wiggling and trying to barrel-roll away from me, he managed to get poo on his feet, all over the changing mat, on his shorts, up his back and on my hands.

Disgust.

I didn’t have any other shorts for him in the diaper bag, so he sported Gwyn’s pink polka-dot shorts.

Poo was also discovered on Cal’s carseat, that which The Hubby cleaned up while out with Gwyn.

During dinner, Gwyn had to run to the potty three times, refusing to let anyone else take her but me, so each time we ran out to the car, grabbed her potty and booked it to the bathroom.

Meanwhile, Cal ate ranch.

And somehow during all of this, Gwyn ended up with two different shoes.

Considering being on the road for over thirteen hours, I guess I would call this a success? Or… maybe tolerable.

I focused all my energy on packing for the family and getting our house put back together before we left that once I got to Reno I realized I forgot ALL of my shoes. No shoes. The  next day I realized I forgot all of my hair supplies. Blow dryer, brush, straightener, etc. THEN, I realized I forgot ALL of our Father’s Day goodies.

What the…….

I even looked in my suitcase before zipping it up and thought, “Huh, I’m really packing light this trip!”

Uhhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah.

Anyway, we are now here in Reno and while The Hubby primarily has to work while the rest of us stay at my parents’ house, we did get to spend a wonderful Father’s Day all together.

We had a little picnic lunch, went to the hot springs to swim around, picked up an ice cream treat on the way home, BBQ’d with my family for dinner and then played in the backyard.

The Hubby even said to me after the day was over, “This was one of my favorite family days that we have had in a long time.”

Awesome.

My kids are SO incredibly lucky to have the daddy that they do.

I hope you all had a great weekend and the week is starting off right.

Happy Monday!
