Advent Activities December One through Five-Bringing Christmas Cheer Alive!- I’m so lame.

December 6, 2012
The advent calendar has proven thus far to bring some extra special cheer into our home this year. Every morning when Gwyn wakes up, the first thing we do is open the day’s box and see what fun activity the day will bring.
Reading a special Christmas story with Gwyn’s Uncle Matt. This was an extra special story, as it was read in the evening after the funeral of Gwyneth’s Great Grandma, and her Great Grandma’s voice was recorded on this book two years ago. It was nice to hear her voice once again. 🙂

Making a Gingerbread House.
December 2nd

While we had a good time decorating this house, I think Gwyn ate more candy than she decorated with. I’d catch her popping in a piece of two…
And when I would catch her, this is the look she would give me…
“Nothing goin’ on over here, Mommy!”
I think next year she might be more into the decorating part, as this year she was into the playing with frosting and picking candies off the house part.

She just couldn’t leave the thing alone… 🙂

Decorating the Christmas tree
December 3rd

I began to decorate the tree with my two little ones in bed. I thought it would be easier without little hands wanting to touch every little sparkly this or every little fragile that.

But then I heard little Miss Gwyneth in her room, just singing. So I plucked that little girl out of bed and together we made the tree “ours.”

She was enamored by it.

And then she spotted Buddy, our Elf on the Shelf. The next morning was going to be his first appearance as just that night, before bed, we had read the special story together. So when she spotted him perched on that curtain rod she became extremely excited.

So much so that she wanted to photograph him.

She couldn’t take her eyes off of him.

Write a letter to Santa

December 4th
At the mall there is a pretty cute little letter writing station where kids can write a letter to Santa on special paper and drop it in a fancy mailbox in order to make it to the North Pole.
So Gwyneth “wrote” on one while I asked her what she would like Santa to bring her for Christmas.
Apparently the girl really likes pancakes?

And just for fun, we did one for Cal, too.

And then Gwyn dropped them in the special mailbox.
She was quite happy to be doing this and even asked to see Santa afterward. Hopefully this is a good sign when we actually do go see him!
Go to the Holiday Lights Parade in Moscow
December 5th
So many layers the poor girl couldn’t move.

We geared up for the holiday parade by putting on four layers of clothing. Might have been a little overkill, but I couldn’t stand the thought of my little lady out in the cold freezing her tootsies off.

Once we got there, we ordered a hot chocolate and coffee and found the perfect spot next to some friends right in the front row. Gwyn really had a wonderful time. It was past her bed time and she knew it. She was waving to the people on the floats, running out to get candy, and yelling hello to everyone who passed.

It was a real treat seeing her having such a wonderful time.

Happy Thursday!
