DIY Bible Chain

March 30, 2026

Making these Bible chains with my daughter just felt so special. We had the music playing, the sun was shining, and we were left with something that will forever remind us of that day and each other, which of course I love. They were very simple to make, too!

To get the majority of our supplies we hit up Hobby Lobby and made sure to go when all of the chains and charms were 50% off; I recommend you do the same!

Most Bibles have a small gap in the binding, so adding the chain is very easy. Simple slide your chain through it and pull it down until it comes out at the bottom and clasp shut at your desired tightness. Then, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to cut the excess chain off.

I first laid my charms out next to the chain to see where I wanted them to go, but Gwyn just went for it and was halfway done by the time I started. To add charms, open a jump ring, slide it through the charm, hook it onto the chain, and pinch it closed. Repeat this step for as many charms as you’d like!

A while back Gwyn added tabs to her Bible to make each section easier to find and I always wanted it done to mine, too, so Gwyn went ahead and did that for me as well. To make sure the tabs are evenly spaced, Gwyn developed a “template” by marking an index card with the correct spacing, and then used that to place the tabs as she went along.

Such an easy way to add a little personality and meaning to something you use every day. Whether you keep it simple or load it up with charms, it’s a fun project to make your Bible feel even more special. If you try it, I’d love to hear how yours turns out!
