Every year for my birthday my friends come over for some holiday games and it’s something we all look forward to so much. Each year I introduce a few new games, and some are favorites from past years-below I’ve shared them all with you so you can make your next gathering extra fun.

Make a line on the floor with painter’s tape-this line cannot be crossed.
Each team takes turns trying to place a small object as far past the line as possible. The object cannot fall over when placed, and the person placing the item also cannot fall. If either of these things happen, the turn is over. Each team gets three changes to try and get the item as far as possible, and each attempt can be marked with a small piece of tape to keep track of who gets the farthest.
Items that work well for placing, small nutcracker ornament, small bottle brush tree, really anything that takes a moment to stand. *We initially did not clarify if objects could be used to help get across the line-I would suggest agreeing on this early on.

Cups are sporadically placed on the ground, spanning about 10 feet. Teams must verbally guide a blindfolded teammate through the maze of cups. If the teammate touches a cup, they must start over. The first team to reach the end wins.
Consider putting boundaries on the side (with a piece of painter’s tape) so team’s stay within the limits.

Each player starts with 4 bows on their back. The goal is to swipe bows from your opponent’s backs while trying to keep your own on. The last person with a remaining bow wins.
Tip-we created boundaries to keep the game going.

Each team has one minute to stack as many cups on their teammate as possible. You cannot stack the cups on top of each other-whichever team has the most cups at the end of 60 seconds wins.

Set up a Tic-Tac-Toe board with painters tape and have four different stacks, and colors, of solo cups at each corner. Players continually flip cups from the edge of a counter/table, and when one lands upside down (like flip cup), it may be placed on the board. The goal is to be the first one to make three in a row, but your opponents can place their cups on top of yours, therefore taking some of your cups “away.” It’s a fast-paced game of not only trying to create your own tic-tac-toe, but playing defense against your opponents.

Played just like musical chairs except with candy canes. Tip-have a few extra in case they break.

Two players sit side by side in chairs with a long strip of wrapping paper placed on the floor in front of them. Using only their feet, no hands allowed, they race to move the paper toward themselves. The first person to reach the end of the paper wins.

These games don’t require a lot of prep, money, or time to play, making them super simple to play during any friend or family gathering. You may even have most of these items already in your home. Keep them simple, don’t worry about the rules being perfect, and just focus on the fun being had together.
Happy Playing!
Shannon
