We got home on Sunday evening from our anniversary trip, but it wasn’t a very “welcome home.”
The Hubbs and I spent two nights in Lake Chelan, just enjoying uninterrupted time with each other. He and I. Me and him. Just. us. Meaning, no kiddos! We didn’t have to live by feeding and nap time schedules, worry about messes and chores, or have to multi-task in any way. Though, I did have to pump every few hours, which was a bit limiting. We did what we wanted, WHEN we wanted to!!! (For the most part.)
Since we were leaving the kiddos with Grammie and Poppie, I had to have enough milk stored up for the weekend. That meant getting up during the middle of the night to pump beforehand, even during times when Baby Cal was sleeping. I had to have approximately 100 ounces stored up in order to go. OYE!
Alas, I made it happen and away we went. The only snafu was that the previous week, The Hubby was out of town and THE NIGHT he left, Baby Cal started waking up every 1.5-2 hours and would just nurse for a minute or two and then pass out. I. was. a. zombie the next day and knew I couldn’t handle another night like that, especially having to chase Gwyn around too.
So, I decided then and there that sleep training Baby Cal was starting pronto. Of course it was sucky-butt to have to do it on my own, but I decided it just had to be done or I wouldn’t make it through the week. The first night was the worst, but only got better from there, as expected.
I felt pretty good leaving Cal for the weekend when the time came, for by that time he was eating for the last time around 8:45 pm and not again until around 6:30-7 am. He’d wake up for a few minutes here or there towards the end, but was right back down.
And then he tried pulling a fast one on us. Two nights before we left, Cal decided to break out of the swaddle, no matter how tight it was wrapped around him, therefore waking up and not going back to sleep. So, the next night I double swaddled his ass cute baby behind and that did the trick. TWO swaddle blankets? I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was desperate and decided to deal with it upon return.
Well, now we are back and you know what the little turd decides to do?? Break out of BOTH swaddle blankets! And they’re the velcro kind!! So today officially began Wean Cal From Swaddle Day. The morning started with a nail trim, for I knew those little arms and hands would be flyin’ around like a helicopter, but what I wasn’t expecting was for him to continuously want to roll onto his tummy, therefore scaring the crap out of me. Yaaaaaaaaaay for no more sleep again!
So hopefully tonight goes okay. I know I will get zero sleep, constantly checking to make sure Cal is alive okay. I am praying this doesn’t last long and he just sleeps like a little angel through the night! ???
Wow, tangent? Where was I?? Anniversary trip was where I started with all of this, right? You see how kids take over your mind!?!?
Pff, I lost it.
Anniversary went well. Love The Hubbs. Came home with mastitis. Kicked the 101 temp and body aches yesterday. Awesome.
Happy Thursday!
