Homemade Snickers!

February 21, 2012

The way to my man’s heart is definitely through his tummy. So, for Valentines Day I made him homemade Snickers, and let me tell you… he was through. the. roof. He couldn’t believe I had made such a thing and that they “actually taste just like a Snickers!”

Big smile!

And while a little time consuming, they really weren’t too hard! When I came across the inspiration for these tantalizing treats from a picture on  Pinterest, I knew this would be the treat for my man.

Here is the original recipe, and below is the recipe I made with a few slight changes:

Makes one 9×13 pan

2 1/2 cups of milk chocolate chips- Used in 2 parts
3/4 cup peanut butter (I used Reduced Fat)- Used in 3 parts
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups Marshmallow Fluff
1 1/2 cups salted peanuts, roughly chopped
1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 14-ounce bag of caramels (I used three smaller bags of caramels, as Walmart didn’t have one large bag)
1/4 cup whipping cream

Directions:
1.) Thoroughly grease your baking pan

Bottom Chocolate Layer
2.) Melt 1 1/4 cups of chocolate chips with 1/4 cup of peanut butter. You can do this in a saucepan over the stove, or in the microwave. I chose the microwave and melted the ingredients on high for 30 second intervals, stirring in-between each interval.  Evenly spread the mixture on the bottom of the baking dish and let cool and completely harden.

3.) Crush peanuts!

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add in sugar and evaporated milk, stirring until dissolved. Bring to a boil and let cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add in marshmallow fluff, 1/4 cup peanut butter and vanilla, stirring until smooth. Turn off heat and fold in peanuts, then pour over bottom chocolate layer and let cool completely.

Caramel Layer
4.) Combine caramels and whipping cream in a saucepan over low heat. Let melt, stirring occasionally, until smooth – this took me about 15-20 minutes. Evenly pour over nougat layer and let cool completely.

5.) Repeat step 2 and spread evenly over the caramel layer. Let cool and harden.

6.) Place pan in the refrigerator  to harden for at least an hour. My hubby preferred them right out of the fridge,

and I liked them sitting out a little bit so the caramel got a little “gooey.”

Drool.

Hubby’s words:

“These are seriously so good. I can’t believe you made homemade nougat, with real peanuts!”
