Calvin’s Very Hungry Caterpillar First Birthday- Part 1- The Food

April 8, 2013

Celebrating our little man’s first birthday was much anticipated and we couldn’t be happier with how things turned out. We decided the theme for his party would be The Very Hungry Caterpillar because of the bright, bold colors and because our little man is just that; a very hungry little caterpillar!

I decided to break the party post into three parts; food, decorations and the guests and fun. So in this post you will be seeing the different treats, goodies and foods enjoyed by the guests that went along with The Very Hungry Caterpillar theme. The book includes bright, bold colors, so I tried keeping the treats the same when baking.

In The Very Hungry Caterpillar book, the caterpillar eats through various foods, seemingly never getting full. I  incorporated all of the foods in the book, each with a little sign above the food with the line from the book.

The cake! This is probably my favorite cake that I have made so far. I just loved the bright colors and how it kept in line with the story.

We also served turkey/regular burgers and chips for a more substantial meal. The Hubby and father-in-law manned the grill and they came out great!

I wish there were more leftovers that I could be snacking on now, but I suppose it’s a good sign that there wasn’t. 🙂 Check back tomorrow for Part 2 of the party post!

Happy Monday!

    1. Shoot! I don’t have one posted, Kirsten, but mix up your cupcake batter, spray a muffin tin and place batter 3/4 full. Then place the cone upside down on the batter and bake according to your cupcake time. It’ll fill the cone! Once cool, frost!

  1. Great Party!! We’re having one Saturday and I’m going to attempt to replicate the cupcake cones!
