But it is connected to our kitchen and we hated the thought that the room would only be sort-of used (Do people use sitting rooms?). That and our actual dining room is detached and across the hall. So when we started playing around with ideas of what to do with it and landed on our new dining room we became excited with the possibilities. As for the actual dining room&#8230;. office? Sitting room? Not sure.<\/p>\n<p>We chose a dining table and chairs (See post <a href=\"http:\/\/livingwithlady.com\/2014\/11\/new-dining-room-table.html\">here<\/a>) and had a large mantle that needed a statement piece.<\/p>\n<p>Enter, statement piece.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8941 aligncenter\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/DSC02801.jpg?resize=286%2C431\" width=\"286\" height=\"431\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I first saw a photo from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lizmarieblog.com\/2014\/01\/diy-wood-pallet-clock\/\">The Liz Marie Blog<\/a>\u00a0with a giant pallet wood clock, I knew this would be the perfect addition to our mantle. So when The Hubby came across this old spool from a scrap wood yard, I knew it was time to make it happen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image2-10.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8952 aligncenter\" alt=\"image2 (10)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image2-10.jpg?resize=288%2C384\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those babies were HEAVY! Estimating at 85-100 pounds a piece, having The Hubby&#8217;s strong muscles (wink wink) to load them up was essential.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image3-6.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8954 aligncenter\" alt=\"image3 (6)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image3-6.jpg?resize=288%2C384\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image3-6.jpg\">\u00a0<\/a>I took them home and cleaned off all the dirt and rust and then sanded them down. Enough so to work up a sweat!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image4-5.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8956 aligncenter\" alt=\"image4 (5)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image4-5.jpg?resize=288%2C384\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gave them some paint..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image2-11.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8953 aligncenter\" alt=\"image2 (11)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image2-11.jpg?resize=288%2C384\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And then sanded them down to achieve that rustic look.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image3-7.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8955 aligncenter\" alt=\"image3 (7)\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/image3-7.jpg?resize=288%2C384\" width=\"288\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After a good waxing to seal it all up, I then attached some brass numbers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/DSC02799.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8939 aligncenter\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/livingwithlady.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/DSC02799.jpg?resize=286%2C431\" width=\"286\" height=\"431\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And again, with the super strong guns of The Hubby,(wink!) he hoisted that baby up there and secured it in. And I. Am. In.
