The Hubby and I went car shopping last weekend because two carseats, a diaper bag, and a double stroller just leave NO extra room in our Altima for anything else. Adding in groceries, especially dog food into that mix, was quite the puzzle.

We knew we wanted a small SUV going into the day’s adventure, and had a handful picked out that we (by we, I mean The Hubby) had done research on and wanted to test drive.

We had Calvin with us, but Gwyn was spending the day at Grammie and Poppie’s house, which made the adventure seem a little more doable. Because the town we live in is so small, we had to drive an hour and a half away to a bigger city to do our perusing.

After a McDonalds breakfast run (not my choice), dropping G off at Grammie’s, getting the snow tires off of the Altima at Les Schwab, stopping by Ford (one of two dealerships in town) and test driving a few cars, feeding Calvin in the parking lot of said dealership, we were finally on our way to the city at 11:30, initially leaving the house that morning at 8:30.

By the time we arrived to the big city, Little Man was hungry, and so too was Big Man. And this girl too. And really parched. So we grabbed a quick bite and it was then 1:30. Oye!

We finally arrived at the first dealership, and the first car dealer man talked our ears off on the entire test drive. Is this a strategy? Me having to focus on all of his questions so that I can’t focus on the actual car?

In our whole five minutes together he knew where I grew up, why I moved to Washington, what my husband does, how my husband and I met, my comparison of growing up in Nevada to now living in Washington, that I didn’t spend my time gambling in casinos, where our parents live, and he willingly shared that he too has kids, his girlfriend’s name is Shannon, she has the same hair color that I do, but recently cut her hair short, but she would like to grow it long again, and that she is from Fallon, Nevada. Coincidence?

Oh boy.

Same game with car dealer man number two. But he did all the talking this time.

HE turned down a BOWLING scholarship in college to go “pro.”

“What!? You’re really telling me about your bowling career right now?” is all I could think.

Oh, but he never “made it.” He tried going pro for four years but just never quite cut it, since it is soo competitive, you know? And a whole lot of bowling stories followed…he even bowled in Reno… Coincidence?

OOOhhhhh boy.

Poor car dealer man number three had to sit in the back and feed Calvin his binkey for the entire ride, or else it was an earful of screams. Luckily he has three kids himself and didn’t seem to mind.

We found humor in each situation and had a fun time reenacting the conversations after the fact, and we actually had a great day altogether.

Day number two included revisiting two dealerships to decide between two cars. Dealership number one almost had us, even though we were leaning towards a car at dealership number two.

And then Cal puked on the floor during negotiation. We took this as a sign and got the hell out of there.

Except then during negotiation at dealership number two, Cal puked on their freshly steam-cleaned carpet…. Uhhhhh…. Whoopsies!

So then we didn’t know WHAT to think.

In the end…. we bought the new ride at dealership number two! Yay!!!

It’s been about a week now and I can happily say that we love it and it is suiting our needs just fine.

I love family outings. 🙂
