We recently went on a hunt for new couches for our living room. And I am happy to say that we have found “the ones,” but it wasn’t an easy process. So, I thought I would save you some work if you happen to be in the market.
We had our previous couches for ten years and we really got some good use out of them. Having an empty basement with guests coming for the holidays, we decided making a little living room down there for them to have a “getaway” area would maximize the space in our house and that our old couches would go perfectly down there.
This also left a blank slate for our upstairs living area.
We searched local. We searched online. And back local, again.
I wanted something more my current style, yet didn’t want to sacrifice on comfort, either.
In my dream scenario, white couches would be ideal. But, with three kids five and under, one being a spit-up machine, that just didn’t seem realistic.
And believe me, I tried to make it work. I even searched high and low for slipcover couches so that I could wash them if stained upon.
But really, I was dreaming. Would I really have the time to take apart my couches, wash them, hang them to dry all while trying to keep my family off of the “naked” couches until assembled again?
Sounded stressful.
I also couldn’t find an ideal slipcover couch, either. I looked at the less expensive option from Ikea, the Ektorp, but after a LOT of research online and reaching out to those who owned one, we deemed them not for us. We are tall people and that couch was just too shallow. And, reviewers say pretty stiff, too.

We also looked at Pottery Barn and went into the store to test them out.
The price tag was hefty, it also felt pretty stiff, and my husband was less than impressed with most of the options in their store.

We looked at a few local shops, and while pretty unique and some even pretty comfortable, the price tag was heftier than that of Pottery Barn. So those too were out.
We then went into Walker’s Furniture and were immediately drawn to a couch and love seat near the front desk. The Hubby sat down first and as his body sunk into the cushions a large smile spread across his face as he told me to come over and sit down.
And the first thing I noticed once I sat down was how deep they are. And as a tall lady, this is something I appreciate tremendously. I don’t particularly like feeling like a big Avatar sitting on little couches.
So we sat, discussed, and sat some more while talking about these couches. I walked around the store and placed various pillows to try and get a visual for what they would look like in our home.
And yes. We had found our top contender. At $899 for the sofa and about the same for the love seat, we knew we had found something good.
The Hubby was ready to hand over the credit card right then and there, but me being more of a dweller/thinker, I wanted to exhaust all options first. So, we kept hunting.
We went into Ashley Furniture, Mor Furniture, Furniture Row as well as many other smaller stores.
Nothing compared. In fact, we had a poor experience with the customer service at Mor Furniture and will no longer shop there at all.
So, we went back to Walker’s to get a second look/feel. We then went out to dinner, discussed all of our options, and deemed the Sunset Home 282 Stationary Sofa “the one.”
They are feather-filled couches, so they are extremely comfy. But not so much to where you can’t stand up out of them, either. There are multiple color options to choose from and we have discovered they are extremely easy to clean up. We’ve already had a few spit up bombs land on our couch and they cleaned up with ease and there is zero trace of it now.
And because I originally wanted the white couch, I have accented our couch with lighter pillows and a lighter ottoman to give it that nice and clean look. And I love the contrast it brings to the room now, too.
And the customer service, fantastic. What is great about Walker’s, which we discovered is not the norm at other furniture stores, is that you get 10 days to try them out. If you don’t like them? You get your money back.
We originally chose the sofa and the chair and a half. But, after getting the oversized chair into our living room, we decided we would like the love seat instead. Since it had to be ordered, thus taking a bit to come in, that left us without a second couch. And with company coming into town, that would have been a real drag. So, they let us keep the oversized chair as a loaner until it arrives.
Pretty nice, we thought!
Oh! Also, get the protection plan. If you stain the couch at all, call them and if they can’t get the stain out, they will replace it for free! And if in five years you never use the service, you get that money as in-store credit.
The sofa is currently on sale from the original price, but who knows, maybe show them this post and maybe they’ll give you the same even lower price ($899) we paid for coming in on a referral.
